There are many events out there but here are the only ones I care about for the moment:
Monday
- DIVO Milonga – for $12, you get a nice big floor and lots of seating in Santa Monica. It comes with vegetable platters and cheap wine. Every now and then they have some big name pros performing there. There are lots of old ladies sitting around so guys will always find dances. It’s my favorite stomping ground at the moment. (9pm-1am)
Thursday
- OXYGEN Practica – a crap load of people squashed into a small floor but good music and friendly vibes. Lots of dancers of all levels for you to try out whatever moves you want. Great place for beginners to practice. (9pm-12am)
Friday
- Caltech Milonga – this is like THE official milonga of Los Angeles. Big room, crap load of dancers on 3 lanes. Lots of food and chairs and well-dressed sexy people. Good music and great performances from visiting pros. It’s one of my favorites and goes on all night (10pm-3am)
- Milonga Querida – run by my awesome friend/teacher Yuliana. Definitely the nicest milonga I’ve ever seen. Nice vibes and very sexy people in a chill atmosphere. (10pm-2am)
Sunday
- Johnny’s & Caelyn’s Practica – me and my partner run our own little practica featuring alternative (as well as classic) tango music at Oxygen Tango studio. (6-8pm)
- UCLA Milonga – happens once a month at UCLA. Very nice floor and friendly atmosphere. Great place for beginners to meet other beginners. There are many guys sitting around so be ready to (7-11pm)
- Tango on 3rd St Promenade – a buncha people dancing outside on the street. It’s hard to spin on concrete but it’s free and lots of fun because all the spectators will probably think you’re a pro. If you get bored of tango, you can stop by the salsa group next over.
